Mission

Lead complex ESI collection and review workflows

Tour of Duty

Lead your first complex, multi-custodian discovery matter, designing the search and review protocols that hold up under scrutiny.

About This Job Family

People in this job family protect the company from legal and regulatory risk. They draft contracts, ensure compliance, manage disputes, and advise on the legal implications of business decisions. They say 'yes, and here's how' more often than 'no.'

What You'll Do

eDiscovery & Information Governance professionals own how organizations find, preserve, and produce electronically stored information (ESI) when litigation, investigation, or regulation demands it -- and how they prevent the data sprawl that makes that expensive in the first place. They run legal holds and custodian notification workflows, administer eDiscovery platforms (Relativity-class review tools), lead discovery response during incident-response and post-breach investigations, and design the retention and data-minimization frameworks that keep information governance ahead of the next matter. Success means litigation-ready data, defensible preservation, and a discovery program Fortune 100 clients trust under deposition.

  • Lead ESI collection and processing for complex, multi-custodian matters
  • Design search terms, review protocols, and technology-assisted review (TAR) workflows
  • Coordinate with forensic vendors on collection and preservation for sensitive matters
  • Support incident-response discovery during active security investigations
  • Build custodian interview and data mapping processes for new matter types
  • Train junior analysts on platform administration and review workflows

Every responsibility is an accomplishment waiting to happen. The question is: will you own the outcome, or just do the task?

AI as an Accelerator

AI isn't a skill we call out. It's invisible in the accomplishment but easily visible in the velocity and scale of your outcomes. Here's how people in this role are accelerating their work with AI:

  • Design technology-assisted review (TAR) workflows for complex matters
  • Build AI-driven custodian risk scoring for collection prioritization
  • Implement AI-assisted incident-response triage for breach investigations

Your Career Record

Your Career Record. Your Portable Proof.

Log accomplishments as you go — not skills you claim, but work you've shipped. When you're ready for your next chapter, TailorCV turns your track record into a promotion case or tailored resume.

Your career story. Your control.

The Competencies That Matter

Skills fill your toolbox. Competencies are how you wield them. Three matter most at this level:

1. LEGAL & COMPLIANCE (3) Strong Legal & Compliance skills required at this level.

2. INFORMATION SECURITY (2) Strong Information Security skills required at this level.

3. IT OPERATIONS (1) Strong IT Operations skills required at this level.

The radar shows the full picture. These three are where you need to be undeniable.

Your Journey From Here

Going up? Your next Tour of Duty:

→ eDiscovery & Information Governance Manager - eDiscovery & Information Governance (L4) "Manage the eDiscovery platform portfolio and information governance policies that keep the organization litigation-ready."

The L3 → L4 gap is about OWNERSHIP: • From executing tasks → owning outcomes • From writing code → designing systems • From asking questions → answering them

These are your stretch accomplishments. Start doing L4 work now. When you can prove it with accomplishments, you're ready.

Going sideways? That's valid too.

Up isn't the only direction. It's your career. You own it.
