Mission

Learn consumer product craft and develop user empathy through hands-on feature work

Tour of Duty

Ship a feature that users mention positively in reviews or feedback

About This Job Family

People in this job family own the 'what' and 'why' of products—defining vision, prioritizing roadmaps, and translating customer needs into features that drive business outcomes. Product management is an inherently inbound function: PMs synthesize customer discovery, user research, market signals, and usage data to determine what to build. They work at the intersection of engineering, design, and go-to-market, balancing competing demands while keeping teams aligned on what matters most.

What You'll Do

Consumer Product Managers build products that millions of people use daily. They embody the inbound PM archetype: deeply studying user behavior, running usability tests, and letting customer insight—not sales pressure—drive the roadmap. They think in terms of user delight, habit formation, and viral loops—not enterprise contracts or sales cycles. The stakes are different: a confusing UX doesn't lose one deal, it loses thousands of users silently. Success means shipping features that users love, share, and return to compulsively.

  • Learn consumer behavior patterns and engagement mechanics
  • Document user feedback themes from app reviews and support
  • Support usability testing and user research sessions
  • Build foundational knowledge of retention and engagement metrics
  • Participate in feature design reviews and critiques
  • Write first-draft feature specifications under mentorship

Every responsibility is an accomplishment waiting to happen. The question is: will you own the outcome, or just do the task?

AI as an Accelerator

AI isn't a skill we call out. It's invisible in the accomplishment but easily visible in the velocity and scale of your outcomes. Here's how people in this role are accelerating their work with AI:

  • Analyze user feedback themes from reviews and support tickets
  • Draft user interview discussion guides
  • Summarize usability test findings

Your Career Record

**Your Career Record. Your Portable Proof.**

Log accomplishments as you go — not skills you claim, but work you've shipped. When you're ready for your next chapter, TailorCV turns your track record into a promotion case or tailored resume.

Your career story. Your control.

The Competencies That Matter

Skills fill your toolbox. Competencies are how you wield them. Three matter most at this level:

1. MARKETING (2) Strong Marketing skills required at this level.

2. PRODUCT MANAGEMENT (2) Strong Product Management skills required at this level.

3. DESIGN & UX (1) Strong Design & UX skills required at this level.

The radar shows the full picture. These three are where you need to be undeniable.

Your Journey From Here

Going up? Your next Tour of Duty:

→ Junior Product Manager, Consumer - B2C Consumer (L2) "Own a feature that measurably improves engagement or retention"

The L1 → L2 gap is about OWNERSHIP: • From executing tasks → owning outcomes • From writing code → designing systems • From asking questions → answering them

These are your stretch accomplishments. Start doing L2 work now. When you can prove it with accomplishments, you're ready.

Going sideways? That's valid too.

Up isn't the only direction. It's your career. You own it.
