About This Job Family
People in this job family own the 'what' and 'why' of products—defining vision, prioritizing roadmaps, and translating customer needs into features that drive business outcomes. Product management is an inherently inbound function: PMs synthesize customer discovery, user research, market signals, and usage data to determine what to build. They work at the intersection of engineering, design, and go-to-market, balancing competing demands while keeping teams aligned on what matters most.
What You'll Do
Consumer Product Managers build products that millions of people use daily. They embody the inbound PM archetype: deeply studying user behavior, running usability tests, and letting customer insight—not sales pressure—drive the roadmap. They think in terms of user delight, habit formation, and viral loops—not enterprise contracts or sales cycles. The stakes are different: a confusing UX doesn't lose one deal, it loses thousands of users silently. Success means shipping features that users love, share, and return to compulsively.
- • Own feature delivery for specific engagement or delight metrics
- • Analyze user session data to identify UX opportunities
- • Draft user flows and interaction patterns
- • Coordinate with Design on consumer experience improvements
- • Build dashboards tracking engagement and satisfaction metrics
- • Manage consumer feature requests through development
Every responsibility is an accomplishment waiting to happen. The question is: will you own the outcome, or just do the task?
AI as an Accelerator
AI isn't a skill we call out. It's invisible in the accomplishment but easily visible in the velocity and scale of your outcomes. Here's how people in this role are accelerating their work with AI:
- → Build user behavior analysis from session data
- → Generate feature spec variations from research insights
- → Create user journey maps from analytics

The Competencies That Matter
Skills fill your toolbox. Competencies are how you wield them. Three matter most at this level:
1. DESIGN & UX (2) Strong Design & UX skills required at this level.
2. PRODUCT MANAGEMENT (2) Strong Product Management skills required at this level.
3. ANALYTICS & BI (1) Strong Analytics & BI skills required at this level.
The radar shows the full picture. These three are where you need to be undeniable.
Your Journey From Here
Going up? Your next Tour of Duty:
→ Senior Product Manager, Consumer - B2C Consumer (L3) "Lead a product initiative that drives lift in DAU or session frequency"
The L2 → L3 gap is about OWNERSHIP: • From executing tasks → owning outcomes • From writing code → designing systems • From asking questions → answering them
These are your stretch accomplishments. Start doing L3 work now. When you can prove it with accomplishments, you're ready.
Going sideways? That's valid too.
Up isn't the only direction. It's your career. You own it.
